These
questions are one 'slang' way of asking how someone
is at the moment.
The
first thing to remember about slang is that it changes very
rapidly in response to the changes in the culture, advertising
and other factors. If you want to be "hip"
and "in the know" and
"cool" with your knowledge and use of English slang,
be sure you've got a current slang dictionary. The Internet
is a good place to look for English slang, too. Tip:Be
sure your dictionary or other sources gives definitions and
appropriate uses for the slang terms. If you get it wrong
or use it in the wrong context, that can cause you BIG problems!
Best is to check with a native speaker.
When
native speakers use slang, it's
difficult for the non-native speaker to understand what they
are saying. When the non-native speaker learns to use some slang
terms in English, they sound like more natural
speakers. Slang is an important part of 'speaking naturally'
and is not necessarily speaking 'correctly' or 'incorrectly'.
It's just slang - the native speaker's shorter, tongue-friendly,
speech forms.
She's
fuckin' cute. Look at her boobs.
Sometimes,
slang has
a meaning that is different from the actual word meaning contained
in the dictionary.
slang n.
1. A kind of language occurring chiefly in casual
and playful speech, made up typically of short-lived coinages
and figures of speech that are deliberately used in place
of standard terms for added raciness, humor, irreverence,
or other effect. 2. Language peculiar to a group; argot or jargon:
thieves' slang.
Don't
forget to put on the rubber ! There is always the risk of AIDS.
When
a
slang word
becomes very popular and stays in the spoken vocabulary long
enough, it will be entered into the dictionary and noted as
'slang'. Sometimes a slang word is only in use for a short
time and will not be entered into a dictionary. There are
slang dictionarieswhich contain only slang words
and phrases. You will hear slang words and phrases used everywhere.
Some
sloppy speech - when
speakers are not conscious of using correct and clear pronunciation
- can really confuse a non-native listener. It's okay to know
what's actually being said but, it doesn't sound professional
or well-educated if you use these sloppy speech. When in a
group of close friends, you may want to sound 'more natural'
and speak in this way, but not in business, please.
She
is a hottie !

Profane slang
(commonly known as "swearing") has become more common and it means to
use words that are not acceptable in polite company. 'Polite
company' refers to a mixed group of women
and men, in the company of the children or, in business
situations or, in social situations that are more formal
in nature, with people whom you do not know very well.
What
a chick!
Read
the examples and see if you understand which words are profane.
Profanity is the name for the group of words that are profane.
You will hear them used in all types of situations because not
everyone is conscious of being polite or mannerly. Don't use
them yourself unless you are in a group of close friends who
are also using this type of language. Never in business, though
you will hear others do so. There is an increasing trend to
use profanity in place of verbs, nouns, adjectives and adverbs.
This seems an idiotic trend when we have such a rich, descriptive
language to use.

The profane
slang phrase
What it
really means
The
shit hit the fan.
That
someone (usually an authority figure such as parents or bosses)
got very angry about a mistake.
He's
really fucked up.
He
is crazy. or He is very drunk.
He's
such a shit.
He
is not polite and doesn't treat people well.
How
the fuck are ya?
How
are you?
Where
the fuck are ya goin?
Where
do you think you're going?
She's
such a bitch.
She's
very bad-tempered and unkind.
My
dad's really pissed off.
My
dad is very angry.
My
boss is a real asshole.
The
boss is not a nice person, usually means cruel.
She's
behaving like an ass.
She
is acting inappropriately for the situation or excessively silly.
Swearing is using
profanity (also known, more formally as "vulgar speech") when
one is angry, annoyed, excited or is feeling some other strong
emotion. You will hear them used mostly as verbs, adverbs
and adjectives. The most common profane
words are:
fuck,
shit, ass, asshole, bitch, piss
What
a bitch !
They
are best not used in business though you will hear them used
in business by native speakers. Use good judgment about using
them in social situations as well. If the people you're with
are using them, then they won't be offended if you do also.
If you don't hear them used, don't use them at all.
Slang is such a large topic that it would be impossible
to cover everything here. If you're interested in learning
more about English slang, use a search engine such as Google
and type in 'slang'. You'll get many results returned. The slang
vocabulary used varies from country to country, region to
region and often, even from city to city. You can still find
some most common slang words referring to male and female
sexual organs. Use them carefully. Refrain from using them
in public.People may misinterpret you even laugh at you.
Female:
Pussy, Bung Hole, Beaver, Slit, Cunt, etc.
Sexual intercourse: Fuck, Screw,
Pump, Jive

Another
language area often confused with slang is the use ofidioms.
Idioms are words and phrases that often don't
mean what they seem to mean. I wouldn't recommend studying or
learning too many idioms until the student is at an advanced
level of English because they can be quite difficult to understand.

expression of a given language that is peculiar to itself
grammatically or cannot be understood from the individual

them entirely different from the local variety” (S.J.
Perelman).
5.A style of artistic expression characteristic
